Our horns & materials
Our Up-cycled Buffalo Horns
At Hathorway, we selected horn as our primary material to create our jewelry and accessories for many reasons.
A byproduct of waste
Advocating for zero-waste, Hathorway ethically-source buffalo horns that are discarded from the food industry & deadstock in Vietnam. As a sign of respect to the buffalo, nothing of the creature is wasted.
Chemical-free process
To prevent pollution, no chemicals are used, nor is it made with a process that is harmful to our environment. Using only heat and oil, the horns are flattened into plates, then cut, and polished with using water.
An organic material
As an eco-friendly material with high mineral nitrogen, all our excess horn shavings produced during the creation of our pieces are used as soil fertilizer for the rice fields in Vietnam. Thus, providing rice crops to feed people and other buffalos.
One-of-a-kind pattern
Every horn piece is one-of-a-kind. Each possesses its own exquisite colors and patterns variation from various shades of lustrous milk, caramel, and charcoal colors in various levels of lucency.

About the designer & brand
Today all items are designed by the founder of Hathorway, Jessica Phan. Born in San Francisco, California, Jessica always had this cavernous, maddening interest in design, especially in fashion. Her childhood dream was to be in fashion, but she decided to pursue a career as a creative and design generalist.
Over the years, she had the opportunity to design various products and apps for many brands and companies like Samsung, SAP, JCPenney, and Balsam Hill. In 2018, Jessica rediscover her childhood dream and founded Hathorway, a sustainable fashion accessories brand with a mission to empower women.
With her background in graphic design, many of her inspiration comes from playing with clean lines and playful silhouette of geometric shapes -- designed for the modern metropolitan woman.
