An advocate for zero waste, Hathorway selects only ethically sourced buffalo horns that are discarded from the food industry and dead stock from the agricultural industry in Vietnam. As a sign of respect to the buffalo, nothing is wasted; every part of the buffalo is used.

Chemical-free Process

No chemicals are used and no products are made with a process that pollutes our environment. Using only heat and oil — a Vietnamese craftsmanship that dates back 400 years — the horns are flattened into plates, then cut and polished using water.

Buffalo horn earrings are organic

An Organic Material

As an eco-friendly material with high-mineral nitrogen, all our excess horn shavings are produced during the creation of our pieces and are used as soil fertilizer for the rice fields in Vietnam. This provides rice crops to feed people and other buffaloes in Vietnam.

Every horn piece is one-of-a-kind. Each possesses its own exquisite colors and patterns from various shades of lustrous milk, caramel, and charcoal colors in several levels of lucency.

Because it is an organic material, our horns are beautifully unique and possesses it's own natural 
color and pattern variations.

Our cream and milk-colored horns come with white flecks and ivory to sand-colored gradation that resembles mother of pearl shell or white agate stone.

Dark Horn Color

Dark Horn Color

Our dark and black horns can come as solid color or with various white or brown flecks that resembles black onyx stones. As well, it could have a hints of green in them.

Honey Horn Color

Honey Horn Color

Our honey and tan horns come in a solid color with different levels of translucency that resembles caramel candy or warm amber stones. These color horns will come with various white or brown flecks.

Our Metals are important to us as it is to you

While our ultimate goal is to use repurposed metals for our jewelry and accessories for a more for a more sustainable approach in fashion accessories, we still have yet to discover how to make this. In the meantime, we are using the high-quality metals that are affordable, and hypoallergenic.

 

All assembled with 16K gold-plated brass

For most of our jewelry and accessories, we use 16K gold-plated, nickel-free brass, which are plated with 3 microns of real, high-quality gold. Our raw brass are created in Seoul, South Korea, then plated in gold in Incheon, South Korea.

 
 

All post earrings are created with titanium backings

For earring design using posts and earring studs, we use stainless steel from Seoul, South Korea. Our stainless steel are nickel-free and free of any alloys that causes allergic reactions. As well, it is a highly durable metal that does not rust or tarnish.

As advocates of zero waste, the lining of our bags and branded pouches are made with cut-waste 100% cotton fabric that has been discarded from local clothing factories.

For our earrings and necklace holders, we package them with wildflower seed paper. We selected this so that customers can give back to the earth and plant flowers, instead of recycling or throwing it away.
